Last Tuesday (Jan. 5), Segway announced they will be expanding their business line to include Segway Robotics, launching the company into the home service robotics market.
Segway partnered with Intel and Chinese startup Xiaomi to create the Advanced Personal Robot which was unveiled at CES 2016.
The robot is equipped with an Intel RealSense RGB-D camera, which allows it to sense depth, recognize and track objects, while its connectivity gives the user control of other smart home appliances with simple voice commands. With just a tap to the head, the robot can be transformed into a traditional Segway.
A developer’s edition is slated to ship in fall 2016, while mass production will begin in early 2017. Find out more about the Segway Robot here.
